Rustic Elegance in Berks County: A Romantic Stone Spring Farms Wedding in Hamburg, PA
There is something completely magical about a Pennsylvania countryside wedding, especially when it unfolds at one of the premier Berks County wedding venues. As a local husband-and-wife wedding photography team based right here in the region, we are constantly inspired by landscapes that blend historic charm with refined, modern elegance. Lynsey and Phill’s incredible wedding day at Stone Spring Farms in Hamburg, PA, was the absolute epitome of that perfect balance.
Nestled beautifully near the base of the Blue Mountains, Stone Spring Farms offers an unparalleled backdrop for couples seeking a sophisticated yet authentic rustic barn wedding in Pennsylvania. From the sun-drenched rolling pastures to the flawlessly restored historic bank barn, every single corner of this property screams romance. We are thrilled to share a look into their day, filled with timeless details, emotional moments, and stunning portraiture that leverages the venue’s signature natural light.
The Setting: Why Stone Spring Farms is a Hidden Gem for Hamburg, PA Wedding Photography
When clients ask us for venue recommendations that capture the true essence of Southeastern and Central Pennsylvania, Stone Spring Farms is always at the top of our list. For a professional wedding photographer, this venue is an absolute playground. The property seamlessly transitions from manicured garden spaces to wide open fields, providing immense variety for wedding party portraits and intimate couple sessions without ever needing to step foot off site.
The bridal preparation suite on-property provides a clean, beautifully lit environment for those crucial morning details the dress hanging, the heirloom jewelry, and those quiet, candid moments shared with bridesmaids. Meanwhile, the spacious layout allows a husband-and wife photography team to split up effortlessly, ensuring both sides of the morning preparations are fully documented without missing a beat.
Golden Hour Portraits Across the Historic Pennsylvania Pastures
If you ask any Lehigh Valley wedding photographer what their absolute favorite part of the day is, they will tell you it's the twenty minutes right before sunset. At Stone Spring Farms, golden hour is nothing short of spectacular. As the sun began to dip behind the tree lines, we slipped away with Lynsey and Phill for their couple portraits.
The glowing light filtered through the open fields, creating a warm, ethereal haze that perfectly complemented the soft textures of the bridal gown and the rustic elegance of the venue. Walking hand in hand past the historic stone structures and rustic wooden fencing, the newlyweds could finally take a deep breath and take in the reality of their newly minted marriage. These raw, unposed moments are exactly what we strive to capture, preserving genuine emotion against a timeless Pennsylvania backdrop.
A Spectacular Barn Reception: Dancing the Night Away in Style
The celebration then moved inside the spectacular timber-framed barn. Stone Spring Farms has managed to preserve the historic integrity of the architecture while introducing high-end amenities that ensure guest comfort. The exposed wooden beams were wrapped in delicate twinkling fairy lights, creating an incredibly warm and inviting ambiance for dinner and dancing.
From the high energy grand entrances to the deeply moving parent dances, the acoustics and layout of the barn kept the energy focused right on the dance floor. We utilized creative off camera flash techniques to preserve the ambient, warm atmosphere of the barn while ensuring our couples and their guests were sharply illuminated during the fast-moving reception events.

St. Ignatius Church Wedding & Wyomissing Park Portraits | Reading, PA Photographer
There is something truly timeless about a wedding in the heart of Berks County. From the solemn beauty of a traditional ceremony to the lush, sprawling greenery of our local parks, Sinking Spring and Wyomissing offer a backdrop that is as elegant as it is familiar. Recently, I had the joy of documenting a stunning wedding day that perfectly captured this local charm, beginning at St. Ignatius Loyola Church and ending with a sunset portrait session at Wyomissing Park.
A Sacred Ceremony at St. Ignatius Loyola
The day began at St. Ignatius Church in Sinking Spring, PA. As a local photographer, I am always struck by the incredible architecture and the warm, natural light that fills this sanctuary. The ceremony was a beautiful testament to the couple's journey, surrounded by the modern elegance that makes St. Ignatius one of the most sought after Catholic wedding venues in the Reading, PA area.
Some of the best emotional shots happen right after the "I do," as the couple retreats to a quiet corner or the vestibule for a private breath before the celebration begins.
Romantic Portraits at Wyomissing Park
Following the ceremony, we made the short drive over to Wyomissing Park for wedding party photos and couple portraits. If you are searching for the best photo spots in Berks County, the Wyomissing Park system (often referred to as the "Arboretum" area near the Reading Public Museum) is an absolute gold mine.
We spent time wandering near the Stone House and the creek, where the willow trees and stone bridges provide a romantic, park-like setting that feels miles away from the city. The soft afternoon light filtering through the trees created a "dreamy" aesthetic that every bride hopes for. Whether you’re posing by the historic bridges or taking a quiet moment along the paved trails, Wyomissing Park never fails to deliver a stunning variety of textures and colors.
Why Choose a Local Reading, PA Wedding Photographer?
Planning a wedding in the 19608 area or surrounding Berks County means having access to some of the most beautiful, historic locations in Pennsylvania. Working with a photographer who knows the "hidden gems" of Wyomissing Park. Like exactly where the light hits the pines at golden hour which makes all the difference in your final gallery.

Exactly How Much Does a Micro Wedding Cost in Berks & Lancaster County, PA?
When you hear the term “micro wedding,” it’s easy to assume the price tag is naturally small. While it’s true that a smaller guest count can save you thousands, a micro wedding in Berks County is less about doing things cheap and more about reallocating your budget to the things that actually matter. Many couples choose to invest in high quality catering and timeless wedding photography rather than a massive guest list.
If you are currently searching for a micro wedding photographer in Reading, PA or planning an intimate celebration in Wyomissing, here is the realistic cost breakdown you can expect in 2026 - 2027.
The Berks & Lancaster County Micro Wedding Budget Breakdown
In Pennsylvania, the average traditional wedding currently hovers around $36,000. However, for a micro wedding typically 20 to 50 guests in the Reading area, many couples find their sweet spot is between **$5,000 and $15,000**.
1. The Venue and Permit Fees ($1,500 to $5,000)
Berks County is unique because we have a mix of high end estates and beautiful public lands.
Affordable Outdoor Options: Choosing a spot like Gring’s Mill Recreation Area or Blue Marsh Lakeoften requires only a small permit fee. These locations are favorites for couples who want a relaxed outdoor ceremony and portraits with soft natural light.
Intimate Estates: All inclusive micro packages at local landmarks like Stokesay Castle, Stone Gables at St. Micheal’s vinyard or Folino Estatecan range from $2,500 to $5,000. These often include the space, basic staffing, and sometimes even the cake.
2. Professional Micro Wedding Photography ($1,500 to $3,500)
Even with 15 guests, your photos are the only thing that lasts forever. Most Berks County couples realize they don't need 10 hours of coverage for a micro wedding. Instead, they opt for high quality, specialized micro wedding photography packages that focus on the most meaningful parts of the day.
The Benefit of Local Expertise: Hiring a Reading PA wedding photographer who knows the hidden gems of Berks County ensures you get stunning portraits without the stress of a crowded venue.
3. Food and Drink ($75 to $150 per person)
This is where micro weddings shine. Because you aren't feeding 150 people, you can upgrade the menu significantly.
Catering: Local favorites like Cabalar or Konopelski Katering offer everything from casual handhelds starting around to plated dinners. For desert you can’t go wrong with an ice cream truck!
The Math: For 30 guests at a premium $100 per plate rate, you’re looking at $3,000 for a five star meal. This is a level of quality that would be nearly impossible at a traditional wedding scale.

let this be your reminder that you are allowed to do this differently. You are allowed to create a day that reflects your relationship, not expectations.

It is about how deeply you experience it.
How to Plan a Micro Wedding in Reading, PA (Ultimate Guide + Local Venues)
Planning an intimate celebration? Discover the best micro wedding venues in Reading, PA, plus expert tips on local vendors, permits, and small-scale planning.
Ditching the 200 person guest list, rigid timelines, and unnecessary stress is becoming a trend. More couples are shifting their focus from big and elaborate to focusing on the meaningful moments, elevated details, and a truly intentional experience.
If you’re looking for small wedding ideas, intimate venues, or a micro wedding photographer in Berks County, this guide was created to give you everything you need to plan a day in an authentic way.
1. What is a Micro Wedding?
A micro wedding typically includes fewer than 50 guests (closer to 25), giving you the freedom to prioritize quality over quantity. Instead of stretching your budget across hundreds of people, you can invest in the elements that last:
A high end, story driven photographer to capture all of the intimate details.
A unique, intimate venue that reflects your personal style.
A curated dining experience for your closest inner circle.
In areas like Reading, PA, micro weddings are growing in popularity due to our region's mix of historic charm, rolling farmland, and modern industrial spaces.
2. Why Reading & Lancaster are Perfect for Intimate Weddings
One of the biggest advantages of getting married in Southeastern Pennsylvania is the incredible variety of backdrops within a short drive. Whether you want the historic architecture of West Reading, or dreamy meadow in Wyomissing Park, this region gives you the flexibility to create anything from a refined dinner party to a laid back outdoor celebration.
Pro Tip: If you're considering an even smaller celebration, check out my 2026 guide on how to plan an intimate elopement in Southeastern Pennsylvania for more localized tips and permit information.
3. Best Micro Wedding Venues in Reading, PA
If you're planning a micro wedding in Reading, one of the biggest advantages is flexibility. You don’t really need a massive ballroom to create something beautiful and meaningful. In fact, I find the best micro wedding venues in the area are smaller, more intimate spaces that photograph incredibly well.
Gring's Mill Recreation Area offers scenic walking paths, stone textures, and soft natural light; perfect for a relaxed outdoor ceremony and portraits.
Blue Marsh Lake offers water views and sunset photos without the need for a large venue rental.
Stokesay Castle provides a unique architectural backdrop that works really well for small guest counts. It gives you that “venue feel” without needing to fill a huge space.
Folino Estate Located just outside the city, this vineyard setting offers a romantic, Tuscan inspired atmosphere that scales beautifully for intimate gatherings.
Goggle Works offers rustic and industrial vibes for the creates in love.
provides a vineyard setting that feels like a destination wedding in Italy. While they host large events, their smaller terrace spaces and tasting rooms are perfect for a high end wine country micro wedding experience.
The key with micro weddings is choosing a location that feels intentional, not empty. A smaller guest list allows you to prioritize atmosphere, light, and overall experience, which ultimately makes your photos feel more personal and less staged.
4. Pennsylvania Marriage License Tips for 2026
Planning your ceremony in PA is pretty straightforward but there are a few logistics to keep in mind:
The 3 Day Rule: There is a mandatory 3 day waiting period after you apply before your marriage license is valid.
Where to Apply: You can apply at the Berks County Register of Wills or the Lancaster County Marriage License Bureau.
The Self Uniting License: Pennsylvania offers a unique self uniting (Quaker) marriage license, allowing you to marry yourselves without an officiant perfect for private and even more low key ceremonies.
5. Choosing a Micro Wedding Photographer in Reading, PA
With a smaller wedding, your photos become even more vital they are the bridge that shares your story with everyone who wasn’t there. When browsing through a professional wedding photography portfolio, look for:
Experience with Intimacy: Someone who knows how to blend into a small group naturally.
Candid Storytelling: The ability to capture the "in between" moments that define small weddings.
Timeline Flexibility: Look for custom coverage options (2 to 4 hours) rather than only rigid full coverage packages.
6. Micro Wedding Timeline Example
One of the biggest benefits of a micro wedding is that your timeline can be simple, relaxed, and actually enjoyable. Think “ back yard family gathering vibes” but everyone comes beautifully dressed.” You’re not rushing from event to event worrying about keeping your extensive guest list waiting, you’re creating space to be present.
Here’s a sample timeline that works well for many micro weddings in the Reading area:
2:00 PM – Getting ready / detail photos
3:00 PM – First look + couples portraits
4:00 PM – Ceremony
4:30 PM – Family photos + candid moments
5:30 PM – Dinner with guests
7:00 PM – Sunset portraits (if location allows)
Locations like The Pagoda are perfect for sunset portraits and give you a really iconic local backdrop to end the day.
The biggest thing I recommend is building in buffer time. Micro weddings feel best when they’re not overly structured you want room for real moments, not just a checklist of events.
7. Average Cost of a Micro Wedding in Reading, PA
One of the biggest reasons couples choose a micro wedding is cost. In Reading, you can create an incredible day without the price tag of a traditional 150+ guest wedding.
On average, a micro wedding in the Reading area can range anywhere from $2,000 to $12,000, depending on your priorities. The biggest factors that affect your budget are your venue choice, photography coverage, and how you structure your timeline.
For example, many couples skip a full day venue rental and instead choose a public location likeNolde Forest Environmental Education Center orReading Public Museum Arboretum, which dramatically reduces costs while still giving you a beautiful setting.
Photography is often one of the top investments for micro weddings because when the day is more intimate, the moments matter even more. Instead of paying for 8–10 hours of coverage, many couples opt for shorter, intentional coverage focused on the ceremony, portraits, and a small celebration afterward.
Overall, micro weddings allow you to spend where it actually matters to you, rather than stretching your budget across a large guest list.

How to Plan an Intimate Elopement in Southeastern Pennsylvania (Ultimate Guide)
Forget the 200-person guest list and the seating chart drama. In 2026, more couples are trading traditional ballrooms for the quiet charm of Southeastern Pennsylvania. Whether you’re dreaming of a historic courtyard in Reading, a rolling farm in Lancaster, or an industrial chic nook in Bethlehem, an elopement allows you to focus on what actually matters: each other.
If you’re ready to ditch the "big wedding" stress, here is your definitive guide to eloping in the heart of PA.
Why Southeastern PA is the 2026 Elopement Hotspot
Southeastern Pennsylvania offers a unique "triple threat" for eloping couples: history, accessibility, and scenery. You get the moody, brick-lined aesthetics of the Northeast without the chaotic price tag of Philly or New York.
Reading: Perfect for the "Old World" romantic. Think hidden mansions and Pagoda views.
Lancaster: The gold standard for rustic elegance and farm-to-table celebrations.
Bethlehem: Ideal for couples who love a blend of urban revitalization and lush park systems.
Step 1: Secure Your "Self-Uniting" License
One of the best-kept secrets about Pennsylvania is the Quaker Marriage License (Self-Uniting License). In PA, you don’t technically need an officiant to marry you. You can legally marry yourselves with just two witnesses. This is a game-changer for elopements—it means you can exchange vows on a hiking trail or in a private Airbnb without needing to coordinate a third party’s schedule.
Tip: You can apply for a marriage license in any PA county (Reading/Berks, Lancaster, or Allentown/Lehigh) and use it anywhere in the state. Just remember there is a three day waiting period from the time you apply to the time you can legally wed.
Step 2: Pick Your Perfect Vibe
Each of these three hubs offers a distinct "flavor" for your elopement photos:
Reading: Moody, historic vibes like the Reading Pagoda or Blue Marsh Lake
Lancaster Pastoral & romantic like a rustic barn or dreamy greenhouse at Stone Gables Estate
Bethlehem: Modern & artsy like the Moravian district or the Banana Factory
Poconos/Blue Ridge: Epic & nature vibes like Promise Ridge or Carley Brook
Step 3: Curate Your "Elopement Team"
Just because you’re eloping doesn’t mean you have to do it alone. To make the day feel special, focus your budget on three key areas:
Photography: Since most people won't be there, your photos are the wedding. Hire someone local to Reading or Lancaster who knows the "secret" spots.
Attire: Going all out on a stunning dress is always the move
Florals: A high-end, dramatic bouquet makes a massive impact in an intimate setting.
The Meal: Book a private room at a top-tier restaurant like The Log Cabin in Lancaster or Bolete in Bethlehem, or Mom Chaffe’s in West Reading.
Step 4: The 2026 Elopement Timeline
6 Months Out: Choose your city (Reading, Lancaster, or Allentown) and book your photographer.
3 Months Out: Buy your attire go bold! Elopements are the perfect time for non-traditional colors or high fashion looks.
1 Month Out: Map out your exact ceremony spot. Check if permits are needed for public parks.
1 Week Out: Apply for your PA marriage license.
The Day Of: Relax. Grab a coffee at a local cafe, get ready together, and say "I do" on your own terms.
Ready to Start Planning?
Southeastern Pennsylvania is waiting to be the backdrop for your "Just Us" moment. Whether it's the brick alleys of Allentown or the sunset over a Lancaster field, your elopement should be as unique as your relationship.
